London luxury department store Harrods has catered a unique private shopping model in China. Instead of opening a typical storefront, the retailer launched the Residence Project in Beijing in June 2020 and Shanghai in December 2020.
The Residence is an exclusive space open to invited members with appointments. There won’t be any inventory on site but the place will instead rely on Harrods’ relationships with the brands to get products from brand stores. Personal shoppers will prepare items beforehand and have them sent over to The Residence, ready for VIPs on arrival.
The Residence also features extensive offline events covering fashion and beauty but also going beyond with events such as Whisky tasting. The aim is to bring customers with similar interests and passions together and to create a sense of community in a refined environment.
