London, Kuala Lumpur and Prague-based practice Superficium Studio has proposed a modifiable communal retreat in Utah’s redrock desert landscape. The proposal is called Biohacker’s Residence and has won the Innovation Award at HOME 2020 competition by arch out loud.
The residence, featuring an organic and rocky-like appearance, has been designed to function as a communal retreat for self experimentation for biohacker communities. « Since the availability of home-use bio-technology kits, do-it-yourself biohacker communities have surged along with an increasing synthesis between home and laboratory » said Superficium Studio, adding «the ability to control and reprogramme your body is an uncharted territory of personalisation and modification.»
Thanks to its spatial technology, the retreat can be modifiable and or re-purposed according to the changing needs through its bio-integrated and self-printed materials.
