5 Beauty brands from Africa

We all know about Asian beauty (whether it is K-Beauty, J-Beauty or C-Beauty) and its success on a global scale. Another continent is slowly making a name for itself in the beauty world : Africa. For now, the most dynamic market is probably South Africa with several successful local brands, while other countries on the continent have promising concepts. Let’s have a look at 5 beauty brands from Africa that you should know about.

Afriocology, a South Africa brand, is all about eco-friendly practices and pure essential oils. On top of cleansers, toners, lotions and candles, Africology expanded the brand by opening spas at hotels and creating a body line for traditional healer Elliot Ndlovu. Dozens of Africology products from massage balms to chakra oils are available on the company’s website and are manufactured and packaged by hand.

Rabia Ghoor started this makeup brand as a teenager and has since then been aptly nicknamed the Kylie of South Africa. The brand carries everything you may need in your beauty routine : eyeshadow, lip glosses, highlighter and even setting spray.

Beauty brand Skoon, from South Africa, is committed to the best nature has to offer. It is a 13 women-strong company, that believes in manufacturing products that are clean and which do not include any ingredients that are harmful to one’s skin or the environment.

Suki Suki Naturals is a natural haircare and skincare company from South Africa. The company creates natural products that nurture, soothe and heal skin and hair with harm-free ingredients from Mother Nature’s pantry. They are passionate about the quality of ingredients, and focus on unique and relatively undiscovered African specialties like Prickly Pear, and under-utilized natural remedies like Papaya and Mango. Their uniquely formulated and handcrafted recipes celebrate Africa’s rich and diverse plant life.

House of Tara was born in Nigeria in 1998. This makeup brand leads the bridal makeup profession and launched the first Nigerian bridal directory. The company has established itself in 11 states in Nigeria. Their products also retail in South Africa, Kenya and Ghana, offering a wide range of cosmetic products and even a flagship makeup school.
